Duality is the first program in the nation that is exclusively dedicated to accelerating new startup companies focused on quantum science and technology. It is led by the University of Chicago’s Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Chicago Quantum Exchange, along with founding partners the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Argonne National Laboratory, and P33. We are committed to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion, strive to incorporate this throughout all aspects of the program.
DUALITY
The name Duality refers to a core principle of quantum mechanics, in which a single entity may act as both a particle and a wave. It reflects the inability of classical physics to fully describe the nature of our world at the atomic scale. In quantum physics, wave-particle duality is a concept that holds entities such as light and electrons to act as both a particle and a wave, resulting in paradoxical phenomena ranging from quantum tunneling to entanglement and teleportation that will drive technological advances of the future. Similarly, this combination of two dual perspectives—quantum science and business—is provided by our founding partners.
